Turn cooling off and keep clear of water
Turn cooling off at a safe, dry thermostat when you see ice or a new indoor leak. Do not keep running the AC to see if the problem disappears. If water is near wiring or electrical parts, keep away from the equipment. Do not step into water to reach a switch.
Use fan only if the equipment is safe, there is no water near electrical parts, and the owner's guide permits it. Otherwise leave the system off and call. If you smell gas, leave the building first and call the gas company or 911 from a safe place, then contact us.
Protect floors without opening the unit
Move rugs, boxes, and furniture away from spreading water only when the area is safe. Keep children and pets out of the work area. Do not reach under equipment, remove panels, or disconnect a drain. A visible puddle does not show exactly where the leak began.
Melting ice may continue producing water after cooling stops. If the water is spreading toward electrical equipment, stay clear and seek help. Do not handle a wet plug or power strip. Describe the location and extent of the leak from a safe distance when you call.
Check the accessible filter and vents
If there is no danger, inspect a filter designed for homeowner access using the equipment guide. Turn the unit off as directed and use the specified replacement size and type. If access requires removing a service panel, leave that check for a professional.
Look for furniture or rugs blocking return grilles and check that supply vents are open. Avoid changing several controls at once. A dirty filter can restrict airflow, but replacing it does not prove the cause of the ice is resolved. Tell us what you observed and whether the problem has happened before.
Never chip ice or open equipment panels
Ice can involve airflow, refrigerant, or an equipment fault. Leave frozen parts alone. Do not use a screwdriver, hair dryer, hot water, or another heat source to clear them. Keep covers closed and do not try to add refrigerant. Safe observations are enough to begin a service request.
Call with your town, where the ice or water appears, and whether the indoor fan had been running. Share any visible error message without reaching into the unit or moving equipment. If the home becomes too hot to remain comfortable, move people and pets to a cooler place while arranging help.

Customer Reviews
On July 4th, one of the hottest days of the week, and an Holiday, our A/C decided to stop working and we had 20 people coming over for a party. Chad, from Right A Way, arrived within an hour of our phone call and got our A/C back up and running in no time. Speedy and professional! Thank you all!
I had a perfect experience with Right A Way Heating and Cooling. My AC stopped working. I called Right A Way on the recommendation of a friend. Customer service on the phone was excellent & I was given an appointment about ~24 hours later. They kept me up to speed about the appointment via text. The HVAC tech (Matt R.) was professional & knowledgeable. He showed me the issue, walked me through the solution & answered my questions. *Most importantly: he had the problem fixed & my AC was working perfectly again in less than an hour. Pricing was fair & payment was taken via credit card immediately. I can't recommend Right A Way enough. They've got my business, and recommendation, in the future.
Called Brad with Right A Way Heating and Air on a Sunday for my father's house to have a new HVAC system put into his home that never had one. He responded quickly and was out on the job with his crew and had it finished in just a few days after the initial call. Very clean install and his crew was very knowledgeable and detail-oriented. They all answered every question my father had and his price on top of it all was on point. My father and I were very happy doing business with them and would recommend Right A Way Heating and Air to anyone looking for clean, efficient, and professional HVAC services in the Frederick County area.
I cannot recommend Right-A-Way Heating & Cooling enough! Teresa is a rock star and is pleasant every time she answers the phone. Chad and Brad's professionalism, efficiency, and expertise exceeded my expectations. The team was prompt, courteous, and went above and beyond to ensure that my cooling system was working perfectly and faster than expected. I am truly impressed with their service and would not hesitate to call them again for any future needs.
What a great company when it comes to your heating and air conditioning needs. They will be there when you need them and act appropriately to any situation without costing you an arm and leg to do it. The integrity piece for me is the thing that I care about the most and the company has the highest integrity individuals working for them. I would recommend and call them whenever you need a replacement or just service.
We have an annual maintenance agreement with Right-A-Way. They just recently came to perform our heat tune up. They are always so kind, thorough, and professional. My husband and I highly recommend them for all of your HVAC needs!
I called Brad after 10 (TEN!!) companies were unable to help when I needed a new AC unit installed. Brad came out within 2 days, and I had my new AC installed 2 business days after that. The job was done in less than 3 hours. Friendly, knowledgeable, responsive. He'll be the only one we call for heating and AC from now on. Very happy that my friend recommended him to us. Thanks, Brad!
We rest easy, knowing that Right A Way takes care of our HVAC system. They are reliable, easy to work with, readily available, prompt, and have kept our system running in pristine condition for years. I would never use anyone else.
AC Leaking Water or Frozen Coil questions
Should I keep cooling with ice on the coil?
Turn cooling off. Use fan only if safe and allowed by the equipment guide. Arrange help before returning to normal use.
Can I chip ice away to speed thawing?
No. Leave the ice alone. Do not use tools, hot water, or heat sources on the equipment.
What if water is near wiring?
Stay clear and stop using the equipment from a safe, dry control if possible. Do not touch wet equipment or try to reach a wet switch.
Does a new filter fix every frozen coil?
No. Restricted airflow is one possible cause, but ice can also involve equipment or refrigerant problems. The cause needs attention.
